Project Overview

Serena is an AI-powered platform designed to help educators, trainers, and product owners generate full course syllabi in just minutes.

By leveraging AI, the product turns raw ideas into structured learning experiences, complete with learner profiles, goals, and modular structures.

The project was commissioned by an Entrepreneur (Product Manager) who provided the initial wireframes, and my task was to translate those into a polished design system, interactive flows, and high-fidelity screens ready for handoff in just two weeks.

MY ROLE & DESIGN PROCESS

As the sole UX/UI Designer, I collaborated directly with the Product Owner to shape the MVP experience:

  • Design System
Created a consistent, minimal, and scalable design system (colors, typography, components) to accelerate development and ensure coherence.

  • User Flows & Wireframes
Refined the initial wireframes into clear flows covering syllabus creation, learner profiling, goal setting, and knowledge base integration.

  • High-Fidelity Prototypes
Designed polished screens in Figma, focusing on usability and intuitive navigation.

  • Collaboration & Handoff
Delivered all assets to developers for a smooth implementation phase.

KEY CONTRIBUTIONS & ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Designed an end-to-end syllabus creation flow in 3 steps (Learners → Goals → Structure).

  • Built a knowledge base integration interface, giving users multiple content input methods.

  • Crafted a learner profiling flow (demographics, experience level, industries) tailored for course creators.

  • Delivered a production-ready design package in just two weeks, enabling the team to proceed directly to development and testing.

CHALLENGES & LESSONS LEARNED

Time Pressure

Completing a polished design system and user flows in only two weeks required tight prioritization and rapid iteration.

Abstract Concept

Designing around AI-generated outputs meant focusing on clarity and guidance to prevent user overwhelm.

Guided Simplicity

Breaking a complex process like syllabus creation into simple, structured steps was the key design challenge.

RESULTS & STRATEGIC IMPACT

  • Delivered a complete UX/UI design package ready for developer implementation.

  • Established a design foundation (flows + system) that can scale with future features.

  • Enabled Serena to validate its concept quickly with real users and stakeholders.

TAKEWAYS

Serena was a fast-paced project where I learned to balance speed and design quality.

It reinforced the importance of clarity when designing AI-driven tools, ensuring users feel supported through complex tasks.
